Therapy for Academics and Faculty.

Evidence-based therapy and coaching for professors, researchers, and academic professionals.

Therapy for Academics and Faculty

I provide short-term and ongoing therapy as well as coaching tailored to the distinctive pressures of academic life. Many professor-clients arrive feeling overwhelmed by competing demands—teaching, research, publishing, grant writing, committee work, and mentoring—while also managing high expectations for productivity and reputation.

I help them untangle perfectionistic standards, impostor feelings, and chronic rumination that fuel anxiety and depressive symptoms, using evidence-based approaches (CBT, ACT, and interpersonal strategies) to build sustainable coping skills, improve sleep and concentration, and re-establish realistic productivity routines. Practical tools—time- and energy-management, boundary-setting, and strategies to reduce procrastination—are integrated with mood-regulation techniques so clients can maintain professional functioning while attending to their mental health.

I also focus on the relational dimensions specific to academia: navigating power dynamics with department chairs, negotiating collaborative and mentoring relationships, repairing conflict with colleagues, and managing work–family boundaries. For pre-tenure faculty the work often centers on managing the stress of evaluation, rejection, and career uncertainty while preserving creativity and identity; for post-tenure professionals therapy commonly addresses reinvigorating purpose, negotiating changing roles, and coping with evolving expectations.

Therapy explores communication skills for difficult conversations (e.g., with supervisors or partners), addresses relationship strain that can arise from academic demands, and supports clients in clarifying values and career goals so they can make intentional decisions that align with both professional success and personal wellbeing.
